Operations Manager wanted - Permanent, Nottingham


EMBS are in partnership with a leading precision engineering company that specialise in manufacturing detailed, complex parts for a number of lucrative customers across the globe, supporting various markets including aerospace.

The Operations Manager will be reporting directly to the Managing Director and will oversee / support the Operations team from a performance target basis whilst inspiring and driving the company's vision, mission, strategic priorities and values.

This is a great opportunity and has come at a time of significant, planned growth and exciting changes for the business.

Duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and drive a team of circa 5 direct reports & circa 90 in-directs 
  • Structure and support the operations team to achieve high-standards and on-time delivery
  • Lead a tactical and cultural change within the manufacturing facility
  • Measure, monitor and improve performance (Eg. RFT, OTIF, Dwell, Throughput, Late to Starts, Attendance and Productivity)
  • Supporting the managers and engineers with New Product Introductions into manufacturing
  • Drive the businesses 'right first-time' approach and quality, whilst maintaining through proactive problem solving and improvement methodologies
  • Human Resources management – recruitment, employee relations, people development and performance management with the support of the HR / Recruitment Generalist
  • Identify improvement projects focused around raising productivity and supply chain performance in order to deliver enhanced service levels to customers and reduce costs to the business
  • Work in conjunction with the Directors to develop and execute short and long-term business plans and strategies to include budget and planned delivery, operational goals, capital investment recommendations and resource plans
  • Budgetary control and continuous improvement benefit delivery
  • Support the sales growth initiative by developing strong relationships with key target customers
  • Ensure that the company's vision, values, policies and procedures are adhered to at all times
  • Ensuring Health, Safety & Environment protocols are always in place and adhered to

A successful candidate MUST be able to demonstrate:

  • Previous aerospace experience, working within a precision engineering and manufacturing environment
  • Experienced Operational leader / manager in a precision engineering machine shop environment
  • Proficient understanding of the compliance, standards etc. within an aerospace environment including the AS9100 quality systems
  • Knowledge of processes and equipment required to manufacture complex mechanical components including machining, testing and inspection
  • Ability to be able to support in the development of the business
  • Ability to understand and improve manufacturing through innovative ways of working in addition to the investment in new equipment
  • Commercial knowledge
  • Strong understanding of Continuous Improvement Techniques / Methodologies
  • Proven leader, ability to motivate and engage with others in order to achieve high performing results
  • Ability and previous experience of managing change for people and processes
